40 kVA Battery Backup UPS Provides 2 Hours Of Backup To Building
This Battery Backup Power, Inc. 40 kVA / 40 kW 3 phase (120/208Y) power conditioner, voltage regulator, & battery backup UPS (TAA compliant) is installed providing 2+ hours of backup to critical building system loads. The loads include emergency lighting, a regenerative traction elevator (using BBP regen abatement system), fire alarm system, and critical computer systems.
This system is readily available and can be delivered in typically ~3-7 business days anywhere in the continental United States. Installation is straight forward. The inverter input terminal should have 5 wires going in from the main panel (3 hots,1 neutral, and 1 ground). The inverter output terminal should have 5 wires going out to either a fused disconnect or new sub panel which will then feed all the critical loads (seamless backup power, voltage regulation, and power conditioning).
The battery cabinet will have 3 wires going between it and the inverter. The nominal DC bus voltage will be ~240VDC (~272VDC fully charged). The batteries are wired with 20 in series with 2 sets in parallel (40 batteries total). Each battery cabinet is made up of (40) 12VDC 100AH CSB GPL121000 ~8-10 year batteries.
Once installed, this system only requires occasional cleaning with compressed air or vacuuming to mitigate dust build up inside the inverter and battery cabinet. This is important because the fans run continuously, so dust build up can be detrimental to the inverter functioning correctly and damage the boards inside if allowed to accumulate. The only other maintenance consideration is changing the (40) batteries every ~8-10 years in typical indoor clean environments.
In some instances where 277/480Y VAC 3 phase is required, this system is still used with input/output, input only, or output only transformers. This is due to the system being readily available, much more cost effective than most 277/480Y VAC 3 phase UPS, and non-reliance on highly tariffed parts.
